Introduction

 The methodology of Statistically Designed Experiments (DOE) has one of the highest potentials for process improvement and problem solving in industry. It is a scientific approach to identify and reduce the root causes of undesired variability in processes and products. The results drawn from DOE projects are favourably affecting product quality, timely delivery and the manufacturer's productivity alike.

 Drawing on over 40 years of engineering experience both in the manufacturing and process industries, we have formulated a pragmatic and highly effective approach to the teaching and successful application of Statistically Designed Experiments. The objective of this course is to provide the participants with the understandings of how statistically designed experiments are economically applied to problem solving, reduction of variation and process optimization. Through lectures and workshops the course explores the most frequently used techniques within the DOE methodology. This course is well positioned to support the "6 Sigma" philosophy, as well as the process improvement requirements of the QS-9000 Automotive Quality Management Standard. Both approaches are heavily dependent on the prudent application and proper interpretation of statistically designed experiments. Upon completion of this course the participants will be prepared to select the most suitable experimental regime that will lead to the identification of the main sources of variability and to their systematic reduction.
